Hydrothermal Spa & Wellness Development Standards, 2nd Edition 2016

Hydrothermal Spa & Wellness Development Standards, 2nd Edition 2016{2:48 minutes to read} At the 10th Global Wellness Summit held October 16-19 in Kitzbuhel, Austria, Design for Leisure CEO Don Genders, in his capacity as Chair of the Global Wellness Institute Hydrothermal Initiative, launched the Second Edition of the “Guide to Hydrothermal Spa & Wellness Development Standards.”

The new book, an upgrade from the 2014 first edition, has 30% more content, and all existing chapters have been revised and extended. The book features additional chapters on Hydrothermal Wellness Benefits and Natural Hot Springs, with other chapters expanded with new subsections featuring: architecture and design; construction materials; specialist treatment rooms; and some financial information to enable returns on investments in hydrothermal facilities to be better understood.

The book is aimed at anyone planning a spa project in which water and thermal experiences are to be incorporated, and it has information that is beneficial to owners and investors, architects and designers, building professionals, and operators and managers alike.

The book is the result of a collaboration between some of the largest names in the hydrothermal world, from leading designers to manufacturers of components and finished products, who are frequently competitors in the commercial world, but laid aside all barriers and contributed to this essential reference book. The book was funded entirely by the collaborators with contributions from operators Six Senses and Hilton Worldwide, who believed that such a reference point would benefit their future developments. There is no advertising and the book is written in a generic format without the use of any trade or brand names.

As with the first edition, it is exciting to find that, no sooner had this book been published, the contributors were already coming up with ideas for a third edition! Such is the passion in this industry where people clamour to contribute and improve on something for which they have to pay to make possible and yet get no recognition for the knowledge they have contributed.

Print copies will be available by early November; Electronic copies can be distributed immediately. If you would like to receive a copy of the latest edition, please send an email to Design for Leisure at usa@designforleisure.com and specify which format you would prefer.
